TO THE EDITOR:
Regarding “Column: What does ‘unthinkable’ mean for Chevrolet Corvette ZR1?” autonews.com, April 11: I can’t resist adding my own wild guess to the tsunami of speculation about the Corvette ZR1.
I think Mr. Truett’s 1,000-hp prediction is, well, unthinkable. Let’s take a deep breath. More likely, the ZR1 will have rear-wheel drive, powered by the LT7, a twin-turbocharged version of the 5.5-liter V-8 with a flat-plane crankshaft and far more believable power rating of 800 hp and change.
The 1,000-hp version of America’s sports car? I think that’s yet to come once the Corvette team reaches deeper into their bag of tricks and combines E-Ray’s electrification with the LT7.
